Scope of use
Research peptides are supplied for laboratory research use. They are not pharmaceutical products, they are not for human or veterinary consumption, and they are not for diagnostic or therapeutic application. Material should be handled by qualified personnel under appropriate laboratory controls, and researchers remain responsible for regulatory compliance in their own jurisdiction.
Variables worth fixing before starting
Reproducibility depends on recording what was actually used, not only what was ordered:
- Sequence and terminal modifications — including acetylation, amidation, or labels.
- Salt form and counter-ion — these affect mass and weighing.
- Batch or lot number — the key link back to its certificate of analysis.
- Purity and identity data — as stated for that batch.
- Solvent, concentration, and how concentration was determined.
- Storage and handling history — reconstitution date, aliquoting, freeze-thaw count.
Comparability between sources
Results obtained with material from different sources, or even different batches from one source, may not be directly comparable. Analytical method, salt form, and counter-ion can differ. When switching source material mid-study, treat it as a variable and bridge deliberately rather than assuming equivalence.
What to confirm with a supplier
Reaching agreement early avoids most downstream problems:
- Exact sequence including modifications, and the stated salt form.
- Which documents accompany the batch — typically a COA with purity data and mass confirmation.
- Packaging and aliquoting: whether bulk powder, gravimetrically dispensed amounts, or pre-weighed vials better suit the work.
- Custom requirements, such as specific purity targets, modifications, labels, or specialised testing.
- Shipping conditions, particularly for temperature-sensitive material.
Documentation habits that pay off
Retaining the COA and the lot number alongside experimental records makes later review — and later reordering — substantially easier. When results are unexpected, the first question worth answering is usually whether the material, its solvent history, or its storage could have contributed.
